κάδυρος

κάδυρος
κάδυρος
Grammatical information: m.
Meaning: κάπρος ἄνορχις H.
Origin: PG [a word of Pre-Greek origin]X [probably]
Etymology: - V. Blumenthal Hesychst. 39 connected Hom. κεκαδών, κεκαδήσει `rob'. Cf. E. Maaß RhM 74, 464, Specht Ursprung 204 n. 1, Perpillou RLGA 112-124. The connection seems improbable to me. The element -υρ- rather suggests a Pre-Greek.
